BEACH NOTES - AUGUST 2007
NOTICE Dear Association Members and their House Guests, As part of the State of New Hampshire's responsibilities on all lakes and ponds, the N.H. Environmental Services tested our Beach water at three locations on Wednesday, August 01, 2007. On Thursday morning, August 02, they ordered the Beach Closed. The test results were 310 cts/100mLiters at one site, and less than 2cts/100mLiters of water for the other two sites. The lower tests were results were taken near the canoe area and toward the point. The Standard Limit for Closure of a Beach is 88 cts/100mLiters. The high Fecal Count was localized a the dock ramp area .... where most of the younger children play. We are very sure (not positive) that the E.coli Fecal Bacteria count of 310 cts/100mLiters at the Beach Dock Ramp was the direct result of a child (or several) having an "accident", or an infant's non-restraining diapers allowing human stools to enter the water. Through the past Summer, the Association has been testing our Beach water for E.coli Fecal Bactria on a weekly basis on Thursdays. Our water samples are taken to the same State Lab in Concord to be analyzed; the results are returned to us within twenty-four hours. Our samples were taken on Thursday, August 02, and the results were reported to us on Friday, August 03. All of our E.coli Fecal Bacteria test less than 2cts/100mLiters. We opened the Beach. Please be attentive to the danger of E.coli bacteria. The mildest reaction could be a slight skin rash, more common are flu-like syptoms of diarrhea and fever, the worst could be as tragic as happened Summer from eating E.coli-tainted spinach. We all need to be more aware and responsible for our actions: The pond swimming water is not to be used for anyone's body cleaning or rinsing purposes. Take you child home and clean up. Bag and take home all diapers. Use the Porta-Potti in the Parking Lot for your toileting needs.
Looking forward to a quieter summer.
